SPECIAL SERVICES

Sinai Temple holds worship services on all the major holidays and festivals. In addition to Reform and Traditional services for the High Holidays, festival services are conducted for Succot, Shavuot, and Passover. Annual services are held for social action, Champaign-Urbana Jewish Federation (CUJF), Holocaust, and Yom Haatzmaut. A New-Member Shabbat is held annually to welcome new Sinai Temple members. Members host the new member families for Shabbat dinner prior to the service.

CHILDREN'S SHABBAT

Once a month, Sinai Temple has a young Children's Shabbat that is particularly geared for preschool-aged children. Please consult the Temple Bulletin or the Temple office for the dates of the these events.

MUSIC

Just as our services vary, so too must our music program adjust to meet the needs. Friday night music is currently under the direction of Martha Alwes, music director. She provides piano accompaniment for a professional choir member who leads the congregation in singing. The choir provides inspiring music at Friday evening services and frequently at Saturday morning B'nai Mitzvah services.

The Temple choir also works together with our biannual Glaser Concert music scholar to bring the best varieties of Jewish music in America to our Jewish community. In addition, the Music Committee works with the Synagogue 2000 team to introduce a variety of innovative services—some with the congregation's Shabbat Singers, some guitar led, and others introducing a capella Kabbalat Shabbat singing.
