Sinai Temple WORSHIP SERVICES

Reform Services :: Traditional Services :: Torah Minyan Service

Special Services :: Children's Shabbat :: Music :: Oneg Shabbat

Life-Cycle Events :: Interfaith Programs :: Torah Study

Sinai Temple offers Reform, Traditional, and children's services. Special services occur throughout the year, and all life-cycle events are celebrated and observed. Music and Onegs are an integral part of all services.

REFORM SERVICES

Reform worship services are held every Friday night in the sanctuary at 7:30 p.m. Services are usually conducted from the Gates of Prayer.

One of the early Friday-night services each month is Family Night. On those nights, the services are especially designed for the entire family, including younger children. Another monthly service is devoted to Torah study. As part of the worship services, the Rabbi leads a discussion of the week's Torah portion, based on W. Gunther Plaut's The Torah: A Modern Commentary.

Friday night also provides the setting for some of the presentations of the various speakers who visit Champaign-Urbana.

TRADITIONAL SERVICES

Sinai Temple provides activities that embrace members who are Conservative as well as those who are Reform. Traditional services are lay led and are followed by a kiddush lunch. The Temple welcomes the help of those people who can chant Torah, Haftorah, or the Saturday morning service.

In addition, traditional High Holiday services are provided on Rosh Hashanah, Kol Nidrei, and Yom Kippur. Festival services are held for Succot, Shavuot, and Passover. Please check with the Temple office for the dates of the regularly scheduled Traditional services.

TORAH MINYAN SERVICES

On Saturday mornings when there is neither a traditional service nor a bar or bat mitzvah, we hold a torah study minyan service. This is an intimate worship service held in the Davis Chapel and is primarily sung. A section of the weekly Parsha is read and discussed as part of this service.
