Shabbat (The Sabbath) Each week, the seventh day (sunset Friday through nightfall Saturday) is observed as a day of holiness, rest and rejoicing.  
Purim (Feast of Lots) Marks the rescue of the Jews in ancient Persia from destruction through the intervention if Queen Ester Sunset thursday March 20 through Friday March 21
Pesach (Passover) Celebrates Israel's deliverance from Egyptian bondage. During this eight day festival, matzoh is eaten. Sunset April 19 through nightfall April 27
Yom Hashoah (Holocaust Remembrance) Memorializes the heroic martyrdom of the six million Jews who perished in t he Nazi Holocaust Sunset thursday Ma y1 through nightfall Friday May2
Yom Haatzmaut (Israel Independence day) Celebrats the founding of the State of Israel Sunset Friday May 9 through Saturday May 10
Shavuot (Feast of Weeks) Celebrates the covenant on Mount Sinai between God and Israel, and the giving of the Ten Commandments. Sunset Sun June 8 through nightfall June 10
Rosh Hashanah (Jewish New Year) The first of the High Holy days. this holiday marks the beginning of a ten day period of penitence and spiritual renewal. sunset

Sukkot-Shemini Atzeret-Simchat Torah (Feast of Booths and Rejoicing in the Law)) Commemorates the 40 year wandering of the Israelites in the desert on the way to the promised land and expresses thanksgiving for the fall harvest. The second part of this holiday week celebrates the conclusion of the annual public reading of the torah and its beginning anew. sunset
